Editorial and moderation policy

Three kinds of information, always labelled
- Public records — names, codes, boundaries, census figures, election results and mandi prices, republished with their source and year. We do not edit their values; errors are handled under the corrections policy.
- Community contributions — posts, photos, history, events, jobs and businesses added by members, shown with the author's name and date.
- Things we don't know — shown as missing, never filled in with guesses. We do not publish machine-written text as fact about any village or person.
How posts are checked
- Every post and comment is screened by automatic rules and, for most content, by an AI classifier for spam, abuse and personal data. Anything uncertain waits for a human moderator.
- Photos are reviewed by a moderator before they are public. Location data (EXIF) is removed from every photo.
- Posts from new members wait for review; verified residents of a village can publish directly, subject to the same screening.
- Edits are never silent: an edited post shows that it was edited, with the history available.
News
Citizen news is labelled as community content. When moderators have checked a report it is marked “Verified”; if its facts are contested it is marked “Disputed” and keeps that label rather than quietly disappearing. Breaking-news banners are set only by moderators and expire on their own.
Verified roles
Badges such as verified resident, sarpanch or ward member are shown only after document review or vouching by verified residents of that village — never on self-declaration. A sarpanch cannot remove a civic issue raised about their village; only VoiceOfVillage moderators can, and only when it breaks the rules.
What gets removed
Content that breaks the terms of use — including harassment, hate, impersonation, private information and misinformation. Caste and religion are never shown on profiles or posts. Members whose content is repeatedly removed have their new posts held for review, and may be suspended.
Reporting and appeals
Use “Report” on any post, comment, job or profile. If you disagree with a decision about your content, write to the Grievance Officer — see grievance redressal.
