How VoiceOfVillage works
Last updated:
Four steps. No app to install, and it works on a basic Android phone.
1. Find your village
Search by village name in English or your own script, by mandal, tehsil or district, or by LGD code. Every village has a page built from the Local Government Directory and Census 2011, with the source shown.
2. Sign in and claim it
Sign in for free, open your village page and choose Claim this village. Two verified residents who know you can vouch for you, or a moderator confirms. A sarpanch or ward member uploads an election certificate or panchayat letter, which a moderator checks.
3. Contribute
Post news and updates, ask questions, share photos, list a job or a local business and add events. You can write in your own language or record a voice message. Posts are screened before they appear.
4. Connect
Follow your village and people from it, see their news in your feed, find local jobs and invite neighbours over WhatsApp.
Start by finding your state or searching for your village.
Common questions
Is VoiceOfVillage free?
Yes. Reading pages, signing in, claiming your village and posting are free for villagers. VoiceOfVillage does not collect any payments today.
Is VoiceOfVillage a government website?
No. VoiceOfVillage is an independent website. It republishes public records with their source but is not affiliated with any government body.
Do I need Aadhaar to claim my village?
No. VoiceOfVillage never asks for or stores your Aadhaar number. Residents are verified by neighbours vouching for them or by a moderator.
How is a sarpanch verified?
The sarpanch uploads an election certificate or a letter from the panchayat. A moderator checks it before the sarpanch badge is shown. Nobody gets the badge on their own say-so.
Which languages can I use?
The site is available in 10 languages: English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati and Punjabi. You can post in any of them.
A figure on my village page is wrong. What do I do?
See the corrections policy. Official figures are shown as published by the source, and we can point you to the right office or fix our own mistakes.
