Where the data comes from

  • OpenStreetMap, the open map of the world built by volunteers. © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License; our places table is a derived database offered under the same licence.
  • Bank branches from the Reserve Bank of India's IFSC lists, as compiled by github.com/razorpay/ifsc (public domain). The lists give the branch's address, IFSC and MICR but no map position: a branch gets one only when exactly one OpenStreetMap bank in the same district matches it, otherwise it is listed by district (or by mandal when its town is a mandal's name) with no distance.
  • Post offices from India Post's All India Pincode Directory (data.gov.in, Government Open Data Licence – India). Its listed position is used only when it falls inside the office's own district.
  • Suggestions from VoiceOfVillage members, added only after an editor checks them.

What to keep in mind

  • Distances are straight-line from the village's map point, not road distance or travel time.
  • 14% of villages have a map point today. For the others we list places in the same mandal or district instead of distances.
  • Phone numbers, websites and opening hours appear only when the source lists them. We never add them ourselves. Call before you travel.
  • A place missing here may still exist: the map is incomplete, especially in rural areas.
  • Places of worship are listed by what the place itself is, never as a statement about who lives nearby.

Help improve it

On any listing, use Report a problem. On a village page, use Suggest a missing place. You can also add places directly to OpenStreetMap; we refresh from it regularly.
