What IBJA rates are
The India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) is the bullion trade's association in India, with members among refiners, bullion dealers and jewellers. Every working day it publishes a morning (AM) and an evening (PM) reference rate for gold of 999, 995, 916 (22K), 750 (18K) and 585 (14K) purity per 10 g, silver 999 per kg and platinum 999 per 10 g, on ibjarates.com. The rates are quoted without GST and without making charges. No rates are published on Saturdays, Sundays and central-government holidays, so the latest rate on those days is the previous working day's.
VoiceOfVillage shows the figures exactly as IBJA published them, with the rate date and session. Where IBJA had not published a figure, the page says "not available" rather than estimating one. The per-gram values are our arithmetic on the published rate and are marked as computed.
Why jeweller prices differ from these rates
A shop's gold price is the metal rate plus 3% GST, plus making (or wastage) charges that vary with the design and the jeweller, plus hallmarking and the jeweller's margin. Many cities also follow a local bullion association's rate, which moves a little apart from IBJA's national figure, and most ornaments are 22K (916) rather than 24K, so the per-gram price of jewellery is never the 999 rate. Buy-back prices are lower again, as making charges are not returned. Treat IBJA's rate as the reference to compare quotations against, not as the price at any particular counter.

Why is my jeweller's price different from the IBJA rate?
The IBJA rate is a national reference for the metal alone. A shop price adds 3% GST, making or wastage charges, hallmarking, the jeweller's margin and local association rates, which differ from city to city; the purity sold (22K for most ornaments) also matters.
