Mysuru Dasara is Karnataka's Nadahabba, its state festival, kept for more than four centuries from the Vijayanagara period and onward through the Wadiyars. It closes on Vijayadashami with the Jamboo Savari, when the idol of Chamundeshwari is carried through the city in a golden howdah on the lead elephant, followed by cavalry, tableaux and folk troupes.
