Cyclone Murasu: live status, landfall and affected districts

IMD status (3 Nov 2026, 14:30 IST): Weakened into a Cyclonic Storm over south coastal Andhra Pradesh. At 1430 hrs IST of 3 November 2026 it lay centred near 16.0°N 80.1°E, about 40 km west-northwest of Bapatla, 60 km north of Ongole, 80 km southwest of Vijayawada, 120 km north of Kavali and 110 km west of Machilipatnam, with maximum sustained wind speed 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph. Very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards and weaken into a deep depression (55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph) by midnight of 3 November and into a depression by 0530 hrs IST of 4 November (IMD National Bulletin No. 23, 3 November 2026, 1600 hrs IST).

Track and landfall

A depression that formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal on 31 October 2026 (IMD National Bulletin No. 1, BOB/09/2026) intensified into Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu over the west-central Bay of Bengal and crossed the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narasapur close to Ongole during 0330-0530 hrs IST on 3 November 2026 with wind speed 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph (National Bulletin No. 20). It weakened into a Cyclonic Storm over south coastal Andhra Pradesh by 1430 hrs IST and is forecast to become a deep depression by midnight and a depression by the morning of 4 November. IMD's district warnings for 3 November: extremely heavy rainfall (red) for East Godavari, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Eluru, West Godavari, NTR, Krishna, Palnadu, Guntur, Bapatla and Prakasam; heavy to very heavy rainfall (orange) for Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada and Yanam; heavy rainfall (yellow) for Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal and Tirupati; gale winds of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph over Guntur, Bapatla and Prakasam easing by evening. On 4 November heavy to very heavy rainfall continues for Eluru, NTR and Krishna and heavy rainfall for East Godavari, West Godavari, Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam; thunderstorm and strong surface wind warnings continue over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema until 7 November.

Landfall: Crossed the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narasapur close to Ongole (near 15.53°N 80.22°E) during 0330-0530 hrs IST on 3 November 2026 as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph (IMD National Bulletin No. 20, 03.11.2026 0730 hrs IST).

Peak intensity: Severe Cyclonic Storm with maximum sustained wind speed 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph over the west-central Bay of Bengal (1130 hrs IST, 2 November) and at landfall (IMD National Bulletins No. 14 and 20).
